Pride Is Sacred: Honoring Our 2SLGBTQIA+ Relatives
Share
This Pride Month, remember:
Indigenous people have always honored our 2SLGBTQIA+ relatives.
Long before colonization, our Two-Spirit kin held sacred roles, such as healers, leaders, knowledge keepers. Their identities were not just accepted. They were respected. Seen as gifts from Creator. Celebrated as vital threads in the fabric of our communities.
Homophobia is not Indigenous.
Transphobia is not Indigenous.
Shame is not Indigenous.
Those came with colonization. With systems designed to erase our sovereignty and silence our truth.
We reject that.
This Pride, we celebrate not just survival, but sacredness. We honor our traditions, our relatives, and our right to exist fully and freely.
Love is not a sin.
Hate is.
Respect our sovereignty. Respect our people. Respect the ways we love.
We’ve always been here. We’re not going anywhere.
